| It is with regret that I read of the passing of ‘Buckwheat’ early last year. Please pass on my regards to Dougie Stewart who I know Buckwheat was very close too. I hope that when I get to Plymouth again I will be able to meet and catch up with Dougie and the rest of the members. |

Dear All,
Message received from Knocker (Branch Treasurer) Essex Branch, Monday 01st Sept :- Dear Billy, On behalf of our Chairman (Fritz Fry) and all the guys from the Essex Branch, I would like to take this opportunity in giving you and all of your members a huge thank you for laying on such a great evening for us at your British Legion. With neat tot all round, dits abounding and oggies a plenty, what more could we ask.
Also we'd like to give a special thank you to Alan Jones and his crew for their personalised tour of Courageous in Plymouth Dockyard on Saturday morning. No easy task to arrange we feel sure and couldn't have been more appreciated by us for their time and effort; dare I say it, all of their patience, some of our lot aren't nuclear trained!!!!!
Again many thanks, and if you're ever our way we'd be only too happy to reciprocate, hope to see some of you in November on the Embankment Parade.
Regards
Knocker. |

Just incase we have some of the branch that we don't have upto date e-mail addresses for, read this, make contact, please, we still muster our ten to fifteen shipwrecks (shipmates) every 3rd Friday of the month at Crownhill RBL, 19:30 for 20:00.
Recent happenings with the branch :- Annual reunion at Nottingham, we were well represented and conducted ourselves properly, I behaved myself better this time than I did at Coventry Ahem!!!! "Nuff sed". Unfortunately we were not represented at the Embankment this year (something to work on for next year), 07th Nov 08 saw seven of us attend RNSMS HMS Raleigh for the Act of Remembrance and Wreath Laying, I had the honour of laying the branch wreath, there was the unveiling of the picture by the wife of WO1 Cox'n (SM) Simon (JIM) Slater MBE who sadly crossed the bar on 06th August 2008 and a presentation gift to his wife and family followed.
On completion, all retired to the Senior Rates Mess where a spread was laid on, the bar opened, the bar shut (later), those left standing made their way to the Britannia pub at Milehouse (5 of us) managed to carry on drinking until half eightish Hic!! We had Saturday to recover in readiness for the Sunday Ceremony up on the "Hoe" starting off our stumble, totter, shuffle, wobble, change step hitch kick type march in the "Veterans Platoon", we had the band with us to keep us company, we completed a couple of laps around the interior of the Citadel, really surrounded the cars in the car park Ha! (I reckon we were lost), once we were clear of the Citadel, the masses were applauding us on the move, the Branch Standard was ably carried by our Albert (RN) Warrillow ahead of us (they had it rough as it was blowing a "Hooligoon"), during the service, a couple of the Standard Bearers were blown off Station, It was a good service and well organised, hope we can muster more bodies for next year from the Branch. Lest we forget, our next quarterly meeting is Nov 21st with our Christmas Drinks night scheduled for Dec 19th, let's have a good turn-out. B. Dob. |

Rick,
How many times have I got to tell you, I'm quite tall for a dwarf!! or should that be, vertically challenged, pot bellied (taller lying down) hunch front with very little legs that just reach the ground?
Hopefully see you at Nottingham where we can share a scoop or two. |

I suppose someone has to dip the proverbial toe into the water, let me start by saying "Bravo Zulu" to you Mike for setting up our website again, and lest we forget, a big thankyou goes to Brian (Nobby) Hall for all his stirling work done on our last website.
Come on all you submariners (Past & Present), come and join us, you'll find a regular dozen or so of us having a good old chin-wag at the Crownhill British Legion every third Friday of the month 19:00 ish onward, we don't bite, however, we still tell lies to embellish the dits. |
